Oak Harbor Public Schools Welcomes New Chief Academic Officer
Oak Harbor Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of KC Knudson as the district’s next Chief Academic Officer to lead the Teaching & Learning Department. As a highly respected educational leader with more than 26 years of experience, Knudson brings a deep commitment to instructional excellence, inclusive practices, and systems-level improvement that will directly support student success across the #OneOakHarbor community.
Knudson has served in a wide range of leadership roles at the school, district, regional, and national levels, including teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and most recently, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Coordinator for Northwest Educational Service District 189. In this role, he has supported districts across Northwest Washington in strengthening instructional systems, advancing inclusive practices, and improving outcomes for all learners.
Throughout his career, Knudson has been recognized for his ability to build strong, coherent systems centered on high-quality Tier I instruction, belonging, and high expectations for every student. He has coached superintendents, cabinet leaders, principals, and teacher teams, helping organizations align around a shared vision and implement sustainable, evidence-based practices.
“KC is a systems thinker and a people-centered leader,” said Superintendent Dr. Michelle Kuss-Cybula. “His expertise in instructional leadership, MTSS, and inclusive practices will help us continue advancing our strategic priorities and ensuring every student experiences rigorous, meaningful learning in an environment where they feel they belong.”
“I am very excited about the opportunity to join the Oak Harbor School District team,” said Knudson. “Oak Harbor is a special community with a deep dedication to its schools and students. I am especially drawn to the district's clear strategic priorities and the value it places on the voices of students, families, staff, and the community. I remember coming to Oak Harbor from Stanwood with my middle school basketball and track teams early in my career as a teacher and coach. Even then, it was easy to see the pride people had in their schools and the importance they placed on student success. That pride and sense of purpose are even more evident today. I am genuinely excited about the possibility of being part of a district and community that care so deeply about students, and I welcome the opportunity to contribute to the important work already underway in Oak Harbor.”
Please join us in welcoming KC Knudson to #OneOakHarbor!
