Oak Harbor Public Schools Employee Star of the Year, JR Sosky, is celebrated by two colleagues.
Our school nurses are this year's Star of the Year Team! This outstanding team of RNs and LPNs go above and beyond every single day to care for our students’ health, safety and well-being. From managing complex medical needs, providing life-saving care and supporting student care plans, their impact is truly extraordinary. Their dedication, flexibility, and heart help ensure every student is supported and ready to learn. They are superheroes in scrubs!

Dynamic duo Taneka and Drew Ledbetter are the co-presidents of the Olympic View Elementary PTA and were chosen to receive our Volunteer Star of the Year Award. This team goes above and beyond in their commitment to their school community by being a constant and positive presence. They are recognized for always showing up, stepping in, and finding meaningful ways to support both students and staff. From organizing and supporting countless events to ensuring our staff feel appreciated and valued, their impact has been felt across our entire school.

JR Sosky received the Employee of the Year award for Inclusion and Belonging because of his exceptional impact at Hillcrest. He has built strong, trusting relationships with students, creating a supportive and engaging environment where they feel respected, understood, and motivated to grow. Known for his calm, steady presence, JR approaches challenges with patience and a solutions-focused mindset, helping maintain stability and positivity throughout the school. Simply put, students and staff alike are better because he is part of Hillcrest.

Crescent Harbor Elementary Honors the Past and Celebrates the Future

Thank you to the #OneOakHarbor community to attended the closing ceremony event at Crescent Harbor Elementary this week. It was a great opportunity for alumni and former parents and staff to come together to reflect on the rich history of the building ahead of the reopening of the new school in the fall.

It was also an opportunity for Crescent Harbor Elementary to unveil a new logo and mascot... meet Ollie the Otter! After a student art contest to determine the new mascot, a small committee helped to design the new logo to go with the new school and identity! The new logo will be a part of the school's brand starting next school year.

On Tuesday June 2nd, over 300 student musicians performed together for the annual All District Band concert! The weather was wonderful as students performed music from their favorite movies, we had a sing along of "Don't Stop Believin!" and ended with all 340 students playing "Band o Rama March" at the same time.

Thank you to our #OneOakHarbor community for allowing arts programs like these to happen in Oak Harbor Public Schools through your support of our levy!

Crescent Harbor Elementary's Anchored4Life Club includes military and non-military students in 3rd and 4th grade who value leadership and serving others. This year, club members read to Kindergarteners each week, gave school tours, welcome bags, created and distributed kindness chains and cards, and served as buddies to new students and others at the school in need of friendship. The year's activities culminated in a beach clean up service project at Windjammer Park. Way to model excellent leadership and kindness, Orcas!
