Susie Diamond Selected to be New Student Board Member
The Oak Harbor School Board of Directors appointed Oak Harbor High School sophomore Susie Diamond as its newest student representative at the Monday, May 11, School Board Meeting. Diamond will serve as the junior student representative next school year, following the graduation of current senior student board representative Allena Locklear.

The purpose of student board representatives is to help ground district and school board decision-making in student voice by participating in important discussions and sharing perspectives on behalf of their peers.

“I truly love this community and would be honored to represent Oak Harbor as a whole,” said Diamond. “The people here have shown me so much kindness and helped me adapt, and I want to help other students feel that same sense of belonging.”

Diamond brings a strong sense of empathy and adaptability to the role, shaped by her experience moving frequently as part of a military family. She shared that helping students feel connected and supported, especially those who may feel new or unsure where they belong, is a key priority for her.

At Oak Harbor High School, Diamond is deeply involved in student leadership and activities. She is a three-sport varsity athlete in cross country, flag football, and track, serves as her class vice president, and participates in Core Leadership, Senate, and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and No Strangers, and volunteers at the Youth Center daycare.

Through her leadership roles, Diamond has worked closely with her peers to plan events, lead assemblies, and support initiatives that promote school spirit, student engagement, and a sense of belonging. She credits these experiences with helping her grow as a collaborator and leader who values listening, teamwork, and finding common ground.

Diamond was selected from a competitive pool of applicants. Thank you to Rylee Wasinger, Lillian Sheppard, Ashley James, Hana Rivo, and Rheana Bartolome for interviewing for this important position on our school board! We appreciate you being willing to step forward to represent your peers.
