Affirmative Action Plan

Affirmative Action Plan

The Oak Harbor School District, as a recipient of public funds, is committed to affirmative action to make effective equal employment opportunities for current staff and applicants for employment. Such affirmative action will include a review of programs, the setting of goals, and the implementation of corrective employment procedures to increase the ratio of aged, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, women, and honorably discharged veterans or those serving in the military who are under-represented in the job classifications in relationship to the availability of such persons having requisite qualifications. Affirmative action plans may not include hiring or employment preferences based on gender or race including color, ethnicity or national origin. Such affirmative action will also include recruitment, selection, training, education, and other programs.

The current non-discrimination and affirmative action policy is renewed with the adoption of this annual plan. The District's first affirmative action program was put into effect in 1974. Since then, additional plans have been written and implemented most recently in 2010. The most recent plan covered the years 2010 to 2018. This plan is designed to be a living document, reviewed regularly, and modified to comply with legislation and decisions by state and federal courts, and the recruitment goals of the Oak Harbor School District. The old requirement to submit the plan to OSPI for approval has been removed.
