All elementary sites are following the Amplify CKLA curriculum in kindergarten through fourth grade. Amplify CKLA  is a robust, rigorous, and engaging resource that receives the highest ratings from independent educational research.

What is Amplify CKLA?

Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a language arts program that combines an explicit, systematic, multisensory approach to phonics with rich texts carefully sequenced to build content knowledge—so that learning to read and reading to learn to develop together. Every day in Grades K–2, students complete one full lesson that builds foundational reading skills, as well as one full lesson that builds background knowledge. In Grades 3–4, students start to master basic reading skills, further opening up their worlds.

Amplify CKLA provides access to student readers. These readers are uniquely designed to provide intensive practice while reading simple but compelling and authentic stories. In Grades K-2, these readers are decodable chapter books that allow students to practice just-learned sound spellings within an authentic reading experience that incorporates compelling plots and interesting characters. In Grades 3-4, readers develop close reading and other literacy skills by selecting diverse, content-rich literary and informational texts.

Ensuring our students read complex, high-quality texts that build content knowledge and vocabulary ensures they receive high-level and rich instruction in literacy. Amplify CKLA provides our students with many online resources to use both in class alongside high-quality print resources. Amplify CKLA uses a science of reading approach and supports fulfilling our commitment to Washington State’s dyslexia legislation.
