Welcome to second grade at Olympic View Elementary! This is my seventh year teaching in the Oak Harbor School District. I have been teaching first and second grade for 20 years! I live in Coupeville and have a cat named Pearl. She is the queen of our house. I spend my spare time reading, walking, playing the piano, knitting, and working in my garden. This summer I went on a road trip to Montana and we hiked in Glacier National Park. We saw wild horses on Wild Horse Island in Flathead Lake. It was a fantastic summer, but the last few months I have really missed being with second graders. I love learning right along with my students. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific University, a Master in Music from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Master in Teaching from Whitworth University. In second grade we do a lot of math and we learn double digit and triple digit addition and subtraction. We write personal narratives, letters, poems, informational texts and opinion pieces. We study community and citizenship in Social Studies, and matter, ecosystems, engineering, and earth materials in Science. We work on both handwriting and keyboarding. We read informational texts, biographies, poems, and of course fiction stories!
