Ms. Kimberly Carey

  • Dear Students and Families,
My name is Kim Carey and I am excited to be here at OHIS this year! This is my eighth year teaching in Oak Harbor Public Schools and my ninth year teaching grade 6. What an awesome age! This year I will teach grade 6 social studies and English/language arts. In social studies, we will learn about the rise of civilizations and two of the world's first civilizations, Mesopotamia, and Egypt. In the second semester, we will study Greece and Rome. We will also complete argumentative essays, source analysis, learn about current events, and more. In English/language arts we are working with a brand new literacy curriculum. It involves several novel studies, including Bud, Not Buddy, Into the Dust, Ramayana, The Odyssey, Blood on the River, Shipwreck on the Bottom of the World, and I am Malala. Lots of narrative, argumentative, and informational writing are woven into the novel studies, as well as other reading and writing skills. As we navigate through the ups and downs of Hybrid and digital learning, I know we will all learn and grow! Please let me know how I can help your child succeed and please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
