Welcome to the 2022-23 school year. This is my first year teaching at OHI and I'm excited to be a Panther! My family and I recently moved to Oak Harbor and have enjoyed visiting farm stands, kayaking, fishing, and countless other special PNW activities.
This year I will be teaching 5th Grade STEM and am partnered with Mr. Meek, who will teach Literacy. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) is a great way for students to learn about the world while building math fluency and gaining scientific knowledge. This year, we will study ecosystems, chemistry, and earth science. Supporting students in learning science in a hands-on/minds-on way is one of my passions.
In math, we will continue to build on students' math knowledge and will collaborate with our peers to grow as mathematicians. We will kick off our math studies by exploring volume and multiplying multi-digit numbers.
I'm an avid reader, so if your student is in a reading rut, have them ask me for a recommendation! I recently read Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan and would recommend that book to any student who loves novels about fantasy and adventure.
