Ms. Christine Parker

Dear Students and Families,

I am eager to go into my third year at Broad View Elementary. I love first grade! I am part of a Navy family and have had the privilege of being part of the Oak Harbor community for 12 years now. I understand firsthand the unique challenges and needs that children and families in a military town experience. I believe this aspect helps me to relate and be empathic to the needs of the students at Broad View and in my own classroom.

I think providing a safe, positive and fun environment is essential to learning. Every student needs to know they are valued. Everyone in the classroom provides a special element to our classroom community. I am excited to be on this learning journey together!

Mrs. Parker

Homework

  • I want my first graders to enjoy time with their family and friends and have time to get outside and stay active. For homework this year, your student will be bringing home a folder. Inside will be their reading log for the week. Read with your child when you can. You can write down when you read to them or when they read to you. We will also have a weekly word fluency sheet. Word practice will help reinforce the sound/spellings we are learning in class.

Grading

  • Grading is based on a rubric using numbers 1-4.

1- Below standard “I’m still unsure about this.” Far from reaching grade level standards Would need a great deal of support to reach standard (Score of 3)

2- Approaching standard “I’m getting there.” Close to standard, but not quite there Would need some additional support to reach standard (Score of 3)

3 - Meeting standard “I’ve got it!” Mastered grade expectations/standards Has shown expected learning

4 - Exceeding standard “I’ve gone above and beyond!” Demonstrated abilities beyond grade expectations

Expectations

  • We make choices that help us do our best in learning.

We are kind and take care of each other.

We do our best and keep trying, even when things get tough.
