This week our School Board approved to amend the district’s expanded opening plan to offer four full days a week of in-person instruction for students in grades 5-12 starting Monday, April 26.
The schools will remain in their current hybrid model through Friday, April 23. As a reminder, those who prefer to stay in Distance Plus may continue with that instructional model. Our team is working hard to make this transition as smooth as possible for our families. The additional week allows the school’s essential planning hours to ensure we continue to meet all of the CDC and the Department of Health’s safety guidelines and requirements. Additionally, we received a waiver from OSPI to delay the 30% requirement of in-person by one week.
The week after spring break, schools will be contacting families to provide specifics along with transportation information as they are finalized. However, below are some additional details to help families prepare for this transition.
INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL
On Monday, April 26, students currently in Hybrid will transition to four full days of instruction, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous learning days, with some small group instruction still available.
WEDNESDAY EXPECTATIONS
Wednesdays will remain a day of remote learning for our students as teachers continue to update their Google Classrooms with asynchronous lessons. Attendance is still required and will be recorded.
We will continue to offer the additional services on Wednesday for families who need them. More details will follow as we look to expand these programs.
MEALS
Our FREE meal services continue for all students through the remainder of the school year (and through the summer). Distance Plus families may still go to any school location between 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. to pick up their free meals, and meals will remain available for all families on Wednesdays. For in-person students, lunches will be served, and specific school information will be communicated later. Families may still provide their child with a lunch from home if they wish. Breakfast will continue to be served. There will be no meals served during the week of Spring Break.
INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL CHANGES
We know many families may request a change to their child’s instructional model (to or from Distance Plus or Four Days a Week). If you’d like to request a change for your child, please contact our front office and our team will work as quickly as possible to accommodate the changes requested. Depending on the change, some requests may not be approved.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS
Student and staff safety remains a top priority for the district. Please continue to review our daily attestation chart and monitor your child for any COVID-19 symptoms before sending them to school. We will resume all of our safety and sanitizing protocols in addition to wearing masks and keeping students physically distanced (which remains at six feet for now in our state) when they are seated in the classroom as mandated by the Department of Health. If we have any changes to our safety practices, we will inform families directly.
THANK YOU
Thank you so much for your incredible support and partnership this school year. We know it has been challenging for many of our families, and we remain committed to addressing any barriers that you may face around your child’s education. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, and we look forward to seeing all of our in-person students four days a week starting Monday, April 26!
