Ms. Debra Vaughn
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Life Skills! I’m beginning my first year leading an already stellar program at Oak Harbor High School. As a former long-term substitute in the room, I know the students well, and I am excited to see them and get to work as well as get to know our incoming freshmen. Oak Harbor is also my former high school (Class of 1995), and I’m proud to be back home working within my community.
In our classroom, a team of teachers, para professionals and specialists is focused on delivering instruction that is tailored to each student’s unique strengths and needs. I believe strongly in the inherent value of every person. I hope you will see that in the energy and care I bring to working with each student and his or her family.
Returning students will recognize familiar classroom routines. We will continue to work on academics as well as skills that prepare each student for life after school. In high school we also begin to incorporate vocational training skills in anticipation that students of all abilities after high school will move into the district’s Transitions Program and eventually a job. We also have some new activities planned, including a more robust program in the school greenhouse. As always, the goal is to help each student reach his or her dreams and live as fully and independently as possible.
We have an “open door” classroom policy for family, and you also should feel free to email me or call anytime with concerns or questions.
