Military Families

  • Welcome to Oak Harbor, proud home of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.

As a new family, you will join the largest naval installation in the Pacific Northwest. Oak Harbor Public Schools take great pride in educating the children of our parents in the armed forces. In fact, 35% of our students come from active military families and we understand what it takes to help military children be successful in the classroom.

We are the area's largest school district, with a full range of academics, arts, and athletics programs. By partnering with our community leaders, we provide the resources children need during all stages of transition and deployment.

    Successful transitions for new students

Here in Oak Harbor, we work very hard to help new students make the transition stress-free. We encourage you to contact your school in advance to arrange a tour and discuss any transition concerns your family may have with staff. Our students are very happy to show newcomers around, so ask about our welcome programs.

    Navy partners in schools

Our schools are enriched by the ongoing work of our Navy volunteers who donate countless hours of service to support our students and schools. From tutoring to classroom projects and grounds beautification, their involvement demonstrates the importance of community service.
