Welcome to the Oak Harbor School District!

Here in Oak Harbor, we provide your child with comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic speech and language pathology services from preschool to post-high school transition under the auspices of our Special Education Department. Speech and language pathology services are provided in the context of multidisciplinary teams that include parents and teachers. Your child's team may also include a School Psychologist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Special Education Teacher, School Counselor, School Nurse, or other specialist depending on your child's needs.

We provide services that include assessment and intervention designed to address a range of conditions that may adversely affect your child's ability to verbally communicate at school and at home. They include therapy to address delays or disorders of speech articulation - including dysarthria and apraxia, fluency (stuttering), verbal resonance and voice, as well as delays or disorders of pragmatic, receptive, and expressive language. In addition we provide services designed to address the unique communication needs of students who may present with "low incidence-high needs" conditions such as traumatic brain injury, developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, compromised hearing, and structural defects of the mouth and face such as cleft lip and palate, as well as a variety of medical or genetically mediated conditions such as Down Syndrome. In addition to the assessment and therapy services we provide, we may offer your child assistive technology devices and services to maximize their ability to learn and communicate with their teachers and friends at school and in your home. We also routinely consult with health care providers including Seattle Children's Hospital, the University of Washington Medical Center, and local pediatricians.

Our overarching goal is to provided all of our students with world class services that enable them to reach their full promise.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or would like more information. Thank you!

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Watson
