Ms. Christine Dixon

  • Welcome Message

    Hello Art Parents!

My name is Christine Dixon and I am delighted to be the art education teacher at Crescent Harbor Elementary School. Every student at our school has an art class once a week.  My goal with each child is to challenge their imagination, encourage personal expression and develop their art skills.

I am very thankful to have the opportunity to work with our young artists. Art is an integral part of your child's education. Through art, your child learns to think "outside the box", to be a creative thinker, to be a problem solver. Research proves that students who take art score better on standardized tests. Knowledge of the arts assists students in becoming informed consumers and well-rounded and involved individuals.

In art class we will be following the Washington State Arts Learning Standards.  The Arts learning standards describe what students should know and be able to do in the arts. During the school year we explore various techniques, artists, media, art history, and subjects in art. Students will focus on the basic skills in art: elements/principles of design, drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture and printmaking. Art is taught progressively. Each skill is meant to build on the previous skill in some way. Creativity, originality, neatness, design or composition, and expression are encouraged in all works of art. Art history will be incorporated regularly into our art lessons which teach the importance of other artists and cultures. School displays and other art exhibits will provide opportunities to showcase the talents of our students.

I look forward to a creative year with your child and I invite you to contact me if you have any questions or if you have any information about your child to share that will make their art experience more productive.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Dixon
