Welcome to Room 7 at Hillcrest! My name is Alysha Jannot and I will be your child’s Kindergarten teacher this year! This is my 8th year teaching, all in Kindergarten, and I have come to learn that it is my home and happy place. I began my teaching career at Oak Harbor Elementary, where I taught Kindergarten for 2 years. I then moved to Hillcrest and was here for almost two years before my husband’s career took us south. I taught Kindergarten in the middle of the desert for a year in California before moving back to Whidbey Island. We enjoyed the year-round sun but realized the Pacific Northwest was home. With the pandemic came the challenge of finding a job--I started in 2020, teaching Kindergarten virtually for a district off-island before returning to Hillcrest. Hillcrest is home for me! It truly is a special place to teach!
To me, your child and their peers become a classroom family. We learn to share, solve problems, and grow our brains all through play. And while this year our learning may look different, it certainly will not feel different. We will still continue to learn through play as best we can and adapt to the challenges as they come, together.
I enjoy reading, hiking, the outdoors, and playing with my children! We truly love the PNW and love getting out when we can to explore! I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher this year. Please feel free to call or email if you ever have any questions or concerns. We are in this TOGETHER!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jannot
