Oak Harbor High School students in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program put their skills to use at the 2022 Skills USA Puget Sound North Regional Competition. The CTE program includes classes that center around the exploration of career options while providing hands-on experience and academics. Classes range from arts and culinary arts to business and finance, automotive and welding and so much more.
The SkillsUSA competition begins locally and continues through the state and national levels with the events showcasing and recognizing CTE students who excel in their occupational areas and leadership development.
SkillsUSA Successes at Nationals
-
Oak Harbor SkillsUSA students ended the year at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, June 18-25, with great success. 2022 Graduate, Dylan Estes, took home a national Bronze medal in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair, becoming the first OHHS Wildcat to medal at Nationals and one of only 5 Washington students to earn a national medal in 2022!
The Oak Harbor SkillsUSA Chapter was recognized on stage as a Gold Level Chapter of Distinction. Representing us on stage were 2022 graduates, Linkin Berner (Chapter president, state officer, and a 2022 National delegate), and Dylan Estes.
Three of our students represented Washington as National Delegates, 2022 graduate, Linkin Berner, and upcoming juniors, Erastine Gee and Haily Hettenbach. Upcoming senior, Faith Crawford, was an alternate delegate and also competed in Job Skill Demonstration A.
These students and their advisors, Lincoln Kelley, Trevor Reed, and Mary Rawlins (Chair of the National Education Team for Culinary Arts), represented OHHS and Washington well. We look forward to more SkillsUSA successes in the upcoming school year and beyond!!
