    Taking Learning Higher

Imagine the workplace our students will one day join. In order to help them be successful in a dynamic and global environment, our teachers and staff are committed to offering students opportunities that will prepare them for what lies ahead. Here are a few of the advanced learning options they can pursue at Oak Harbor High.

    Running Start

Oak Harbor High students have the opportunity to do coursework with Skagit Valley Community College and earn college credit. About 150 students participate in this program each semester, giving them a head start on their college education, while potentially lowering tuition costs through earned credit.  Find out more about the program here:

    College in the High School

A number of courses at Oak Harbor High School are now offered for Central Washington University credit.  The first course each year is offered at no cost for the student.  Credits earned in additional courses are offered at a low per credit fee.  This enables our students to get a jump start on college without ever leaving the high school campus.  Ask about this expanding list of courses at Oak Harbor High's Counseling Center, or call 360.279.5800.

    Advanced Placement Program

Oak Harbor High has a well-established Advanced Placement Program with more than a dozen courses to choose from. The program allows students to bypass lower level courses and earn credits at some colleges with a passing score on the AP exam. Typically, Oak Harbor students surpass national and global averages for exam scores. "All of these programs give students an edge in preparing for and applying to college," said Dwight Lundstrom, Oak Harbor High Principal.
