Referral Announcements

  • K-1 Highly Capable Monitoring Services Referral is Now Open!

Students in grades K-1 are eligible to be monitored for Highly Capable services. The process to find students who demonstrate characteristics of Highly Capable learners begins with a teacher, family, or community member referral. Students that are eligible to be monitored for Highly Capable services are placed in a cluster classroom and provided a differentiated curriculum in their strength area(s).

    Description of Monitoring Services:
Students who are receiving Highly Capable Monitoring Services will be grouped in a cluster. Cluster grouping is when a small group of students eligible for Highly Capable Monitoring Services are grouped together in the general education class to receive targeted differentiation. Classroom teachers will provide Highly Capable Monitoring Services and collect data to demonstrate a need for services during their Kindergarten through second grade.

The referral window for K-1 students is open from Monday, November 1, 2021, and closes on Friday, November 12, 2021.

Once the referral window closes, an eligibility committee meets to review all the information collected for each referred student. Families will receive a letter informing them of their child’s eligibility and placement by the end of January. Families may choose to accept or decline services. Family permission is required for services to start in the 22-23 school year.

The spring K-1 Highly Capable Monitoring Services referral window will open in April 2022.
