Hello Wildcat Families!
We are so excited to welcome our Oak Harbor Wildcats back to campus. It will be a return to some familiar hallways at the high school for many of you, with some modifications, of course. For others, it will be your first time on our high school campus, even though you’ve been a Wildcat for the last five months! We want to share some of the ways we will keep students, families, and staff safe as we return to campus. We want to reach out and make sure that both students and families clearly understand expectations as we return.
In order to reduce contact between groups of students, we have divided our students into two groups. Group A (Purple Day) will be on campus on Monday and Tuesday, and Group B (Gold Day) will be on campus on Thursday and Friday. The campus will be open to students each day from 7:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. on the days you are scheduled. This eliminates on-site lunch services, but students will still receive a “to-go” lunch as they exit the building. In the afternoons, students will have requirements provided by the teachers via distance learning from 12:35 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays will remain asynchronous school days with a dedicated half-hour of live advisory time.
Attached to this letter is the OHPS Daily Attestation flowchart. This sheet is to guide families in deciding whether to send their children to school each day. The attestation goal is to keep sick children and those exposed to COVID at home to expose other students or staff. We want to partner with your family on this, which is why we included an agreement form to be completed and returned with your student on their first day to campus.
“Does your child display ANY of the following symptoms?” If the answer is “no” and your child does not display any symptoms, then begin Step 2. If the answer is “yes,” then your child should be kept home unless their symptoms are caused by a pre-existing condition such as asthma or allergies. If your child stays home, please call the school to report the absence.
Students will be provided lunch as they exit school or the buses.
Masks must be worn at all times by anyone on the OHHS campus. Each mask should fit properly over the nose and mouth unless drinking or eating. If the mask becomes an issue for any reason, students will be asked to move to the Distance+ format.
Enclosed you will also find a copy of a student safety contract that your child will be required to sign when they return to hybrid. You do not need to do anything with this document; we are simply enclosing a copy, so you are aware of what we will have your student sign.
Entry Points, Hallways, and Bathrooms
At 7:45 a.m., students will be allowed to enter the building. When on campus, students must always maintain the proper six feet social distancing. They will enter through either the front office gates or the bus loop gates. We will have people there to check for masks and provide directions as needed. In order to decrease gatherings and improve traffic flow, changes have taken place in the hallways. Some will be marked one-way, while others remain two-way. We have clear signage marking the directions and will have hall monitors present to help facilitate the improvements. Finally, each bathroom’s occupancy will be posted and monitored during passing periods.
We know this is a lot of information to process and that you may have additional questions. We know it has been a while and that we have completely redefined what our school day looks like, but rest assured, we will have a great end to the school year. Please reach out to one of the principals if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for all you have done for our school.
