Learning Resources

  • By working together, we can create a successful learning environment for students at school and at home. Here are some highlights of what's happening in our classroom.

Your student is responsible for reading at least 60 minutes each week and completing a reading log with the title of the book(s) and minutes read each day. On Friday, your child will turn in their reading log with your signature on it.  I assign the weekly homework on Mondays and it is due on Thursday. I am hoping this will help with the planning of homework completion around sports, clubs, etc. Please continue to practice facts at home. Students are also responsible for reviewing and practicing spelling and vocabulary words. A homework writing journal is also included with the weekly work. Please let me know if homework is taking more than 45 minutes a night. Homework is assigned to help reinforce the skills that are being taught at school, not to frustrate or overwhelm the student.

It is the responsibility of each student to work towards improvement of his or her grade. Students will receive grades in skill areas of each subject.  The grades will be: outstanding (O); satisfactory (S); progressing toward proficiency (P); or needs improvement (N) in skill areas of each subject. Here is the scoring reference:

    O    100-90

     S    89-80

    P    79-70

    N    69-0

We spend time in class correcting and learning from our mistakes on tests. I will send home a paper or test if I need it to be corrected at home. I try really hard to make the time to do this correcting with the students at school. My goal is to see mastery of the assigned skills.
    Report Cards-Family Access
Elementary school report cards are available at the end of each grading period and students are assessed in accordance with Oak Harbor Public Schools board policy.  Account information is provided to each family by the school office at the start of the school year. Talk to your school office about Family Access or learn more here.
