Lawson, Dawn

  • National Board Certified Teacher

Hello, Orca Families!  My name is Dawn Lawson, and I am so fortunate to teach students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades in our Primary Learning Center.  In our classroom, we work to improve our reading, writing, math, and social skills.

My husband and I live in Oak Harbor and enjoy everything there is to offer on beautiful Whidbey Island.  We love spending time with our family of three grown children and two grandsons, our pet family of several cats and a cockatiel, going to concerts and sporting events, and exploring nearby beaches, as well as Maui and Kaua'i.

I have been teaching for 23 years in a variety of positions, including resource room teacher, classroom teacher, reading interventionist, and literacy coach.  I love being a lifelong learner!  I have a Bachelor's Degree in Radio-Television from Southern Illinois University, a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Santa Fe, and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Mexico.  I'm currently taking online coursework in Special Education through Washington State University (Go Cougs!), and I recently recertified as a National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood Literacy.
I strongly believe that students achieve when families and teachers work together.  Please feel free to contact me at any time throughout the year.
    Mrs. Lawson
