Oak Harbor Public Schools is committed to the safety of our students. Here are a few reminders when it comes to severe weather conditions.
In the event of severe weather conditions, our transportation department will monitor weather, road and safety conditions. Once a weather related school delay or closure is determined, communication will be relayed to parents by phone and e-mail. The information will also be posted on our district's website and Facebook page. If you are unable to receive the automated message or access the internet, please tune into any of the major television or radio stations.
If a school delay has been issued, buses will operate on emergency bus routes. Please review the emergency bus routes so you and your child are prepared in the event of a delay.
If a school or schools experience a power outage before buses have picked up students, a closure may be announced. If a power outage is experienced while school is in session, the school day will continue. The district has direct lines of communication with Puget Sound Energy to monitor power restorations efforts and timelines. In either case, communication will be sent to parents notifying them of the situation.
As a reminder, Oak Harbor Schools’ primary method of communication is digital (e-mail, websites, internet, cell phones). In the event that those systems are impacted (power outage, cell towers are down, etc.), we will try every avenue possible to keep the families of our community informed.
