HomeworkOne of the most important and enjoyable "jobs" a parent can do with their child is spend a little time each day reading with them. Please make sure to either read TO them, have them "read" (retell) a story they know and love, search out words in the text they have learned, or have them actually read a book they can read independently for practice. All are such important experiences for our kindergarten learners and supports their learning at school as well as offers a special time spent together. I plan to send home a monthly reading log to record that it was completed for their homework grade (10 minutes per day). I may also send home a monthly packet to be returned at the end of the month. This may include fun tasks, specific reading practice, or even specific conversations to have based on what we are learning in class. I appreciate all your support!GradesGrades are recorded with one of four grade letters:O - Outstanding for exceeding expectationsS - Satisfactory for meeting expectationsP - Progressing towards grade level expectationsN - Needs improvementA grade of S is our year-end goal for all students. Many grades at this time will be a P because students are still learning many of the skills needed to master this subject. If your child receives an N in any area they will be receiving extra support in this area and your support at home would be beneficial to your child. Homework support and reading at home are great ways to improve these scores.Report Cards - Family AccessElementary report cards are issued at the end of each trimester and students are assessed in accordance with Oak Harbor Public Schools board policy.
