Learning Resources

  • By working together, we can create a successful learning environment for students at school and at home. Here are some highlights of what's happening in our classroom.

    Homework
Homework packets are sent home on Monday and are due on Friday.  Homework includes a skill practice page with a reading log, and 3-4 pages of additional practice.  This generally incudes one page each of the following: phonics sight words, handwriting and math. Our homework is meant to be practice and reinforcement of skills learned in class, and helps to build a habit of responsibility for homework completion in later grades.   Daily reading for at least 20 minutes with a family member or other adult is considered an important component of our class homework.  This is the opportunity for your child to practice decoding and sight word recognition as well as for them to hear a model of a fluent reader and build a love for reading that will last through their lives.

    Grades
Grades are based on curriculum assessments and classroom observation. Kindergarten students are given one of the following grades in each of the standards measured on our report cards:

S – Satisfactory achievement of grade level objectives for the skill
P – Progressing toward achievement of grade level competency
N – Needs to improve progress toward meeting grade level objectives

Kindergarten students do not receive O (outstanding achievement) on their report cards.

    Report Cards-Family Access
Elementary school report cards are available at the end of each grading period and students are assessed in accordance with Oak Harbor Public Schools board policy.  Account information is provided to each family by the school office at the start of the school year. Talk to your school office about Family Access or learn more here.
