Learning Resources

  • LAP (Learning Assistance Program)
The LAP staff complete school-wide testing at the beginning/middle/end of the year. We use Dibels Assessment and iReady (computer) to screen all students. After the initial screening, we use the Benchmark Assessment System (Fountas & Pinnell) on students with scores that indicated they might need extra assistance.  These results help determine who will be served.  In addition, all students who are served by LAP are progress monitored every three weeks. These results are shared with teachers.
    Reading Support
We use the Leveled Literacy Intervention Program (Fountas & Pinnel) with our K-4 LAP support students.  Students meet in small groups (3-4 students) for 30-45 minutes daily.  All LAP reading students will bring home a bright canvas bag (red, purple, or yellow) with a book and reading log.
K-2 students get a new book every day - it will be a review of a book that we have read in class.  You will notice that some days the books are super easy and some days harder - this is intentional so that students can practice fluency on the easy days.
3rd/4th students will bring home a book that they have self-selected from a range of levels.  3rd/4th students may also read books from home and/or the library.
Students are expected to read 10-30 minutes per night (depending on grade level).  Please sign and return the reading log and reading bag daily.  Some students will also have fluency practice pages, word cards, and/or reader boards. LAP reading homework counts for classroom reading homework - it should not be added. Of course, we will never discourage more reading!  Parents reading to students also counts in the time.
    Math Support
LAP math support mostly takes place in the classrooms after direct instruction.  The LAP staff support teachers and help students who need extra help.
