Mr. Peter Wandera

  • Dear Parents and Guardians,

My name is Peter Wandera and I will be your child’s 7th grade Life Science teacher. First, a little bit about myself. This is my fifth year teaching science at North Whidbey Middle School. I also taught science abroad for several years before I came to the US. I have two wonderful little boys, a seven-year-old and a seventeen-month-old. In my spare time I love playing soccer and watching movies.

As parents and guardians, I understand that you are the biggest teachers and motivators in your child's life. By working together, we can best meet your child's educational needs. I am excited to work with you and your child this school year!

I highly recommend that you talk to your child about how you can access the online resources we will use in class. The first resource is called STEMcopes. This will be our primary resource in Life Science. Students will have access to this portal soon and will each have a username and password. Ask your child to show you how to log in and give you a tour of the site’s features. I will also be using Google Classroom and class dojo as platforms for posting daily work, announcements, and many day-to-day activities. This will allow you to get notifications about what is going on in our science class. Class Dojo is a messaging app that will give you updates on your child's everyday classroom behavior. I sent hard copies home with your child that have directions on how to join. Also,  I sent home with your child: Lab safety contract and chromebook contract, please consider going through the two documents with your child before signing and returning them to me, the sooner the better.

In Life Science this year we will begin the first quarter by investigating “what is life?” Our journey will start by learning about the microscope. We will then study cells and how they make up organisms. You can get updates on your child's performance by checking skyward or reviewing the progress reports that I will be sending every fortnight.

I look forward to all your support from home in making this school year a great one! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
