My name is Kate Valenzuela and I am excited and honored to return to Crescent Harbor Elementary as your principal this year. This school year will be my 22nd year in education and my thirteenth year as principal of our school. I graduated from Western Washington University with my teaching degree and received my master’s degree and principal certification from Gonzaga University.

I believe in life-long learning and I am committed to the students and families of Crescent Harbor Elementary School. We have a dedicated group of teachers and staff members and we believe that all students can learn. We also believe that what we do in our classrooms matters. We care about learning and about citizenship. How we behave toward each other in our school is equally as important as how we perform on assessments. Relationships are the key to all of our success, and we continue to grow together as we implement curriculum, integrate subject areas, focus on data, celebrate successes, practice positive behavior interventions and supports, and continually keep our eyes focused on student achievement and future success. Our commitment has been recognized in our being named a School of Distinction by the Center for Educational Excellence in 2013 and 2014 and also as a Title I Reward school in 2012. It is our vision to provide quality learning opportunities so that all students can reach their highest academic achievement. We are proud of our tradition of academic excellence and the way our students embrace and support each other, our community, and our military families.

As parents and members of our school community, you have a vital role in partnering with our teachers in making this year a successful school experience. I encourage each of you to become an involved member of our school community. In addition to maintaining good communication with your child’s teachers, you have the opportunity to join our school Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Your support and partnership with us is invaluable.
