My name is Emily Southwick and I am excited to be the school counselor at Hillcrest Elementary School. As a school counselor, it is my role to help all students fully develop their academic, career, personal, and social skills. I work with the school staff, students, parents, and the community to plan, coordinate, and implement a counseling program for our school.
At Hillcrest, I have four programs I rely on to deliver the guidance program. I begin the school year at Hillcrest by reading Have You Filled A Bucket Today by Carol McCloud to all students and introduce them to the concept of bucket-filling. We encourage students to be bucket fillers every day. Throughout the year I visit every classroom every other week and teach both Kelso's Choices and Second Step to all students K-4. Be sure to ask your student about Bucket Filling and Kelso's Choices.Individually and in small groups, I use the WhyTry program. Depending on need, I also I pull from other resources and programs to deliver lessons tailored to school, classroom, small group, and individual needs.
