About the Principal

  • Dear Oak Harbor Elementary Families,

We are excited to have your child attend OHE, the School of Choice. Our focus is on building and helping the community within the classroom, the school and within Oak Harbor. We strive to build responsible citizens by offering grade-level extended learning activities that promote connections to the community and enhance the learning of our students. Our vision is "Leading Our School Today | Leading Our Community Tomorrow".  In addition to the community focus, OHE students wear uniforms, helping them focus on their academics instead of the current fashion trends.

This will be my 21st year at OHE – where has the time gone?  It has been a joy watching our students grow from kindergarten through fourth grade! I love working with young kids and building their excitement for learning!

I got my BA with an Early Childhood endorsement and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration at the University of Utah.  I moved to Whidbey Island in 1996.   I taught in the Everett School District as a first-grade teacher for 1 year and was the Success For All Facilitator for 3 years.  Prior to moving to Whidbey Island, my husband and I own and operate an Early Learning Center with 110 students.   I also taught 1st grade for 6 years and Kindergarten for 8 years.  I helped create the Hand in Hand Early Learning Center.

I am so fortunate to work with a very dedicated, kind, and caring staff!  It is our vision to provide quality learning opportunities so that all students can reach their highest academic achievement.  We are proud of our academic excellence and the way our students embrace and support each other, our community, and our military families.

Our volunteers are a very valuable resource for our school. Our parents are very involved and play a vital role in their children’s education. We have a wonderful PTA! Throughout the year, we have many PTA family events.  In addition, we have many other volunteers, including our Navy partnership with the VP-46 and community volunteers that help in our classrooms. We encourage you to join our PTA and be a volunteer to be involved in the school and your child’s education.

    Dorothy Day, Principal
