OHPS Hosts School Safety Community Forum with OHPD

On Tuesday, March 28, Oak Harbor Public Schools held a School Safety Community Forum with the Oak Harbor Police Department. The purpose of the event is to provide information about ongoing safety planning, collaboration with the Oak Harbor Police Department and answer questions from the community.
Superintendent Michelle Kuss-Cybula led the presentation, which also included information from school administrators, police officers, and directors from the district's facilities, information services and communication departments. The event, which included a presentation and Q&A from audience members, covered the following topics:
- Prevention Planning - Mental Health & Anti-bullying resources, school discipline procedures, and the available anonymous tip line for students and families
- Protection & Mitigation Steps - Improvements to infrastructure, locking doors, fences and technology
- Response Planning - Emergency Drills, tabletop exercises, collaboration with the Oak Harbor Police Department and School Resource Officer, communication with staff and families during an emergency, steps families can do to prepare for an emergency
- Recovery Steps - Resources for staff and families after an emergency or incident occurs at one of our schools
