  • Welcome to second grade! This is my ninth year teaching at Olympic View Elementary.  I have been teaching for 22 years. I live in Coupeville and have a cat named Pearl. She is the queen of our house. I spend my spare time reading, walking, playing the piano, knitting, and working in my garden. This summer I spent a month in Portugal and Spain.  I walked a trail called the Camino de Santiago, and it was about 150 miles of walking! I also flew to Shetland, and went on a knitting and hiking trip.  It was a epic summer, but I have really missed being with second graders. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific University, a Master in Music from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Master in Teaching from Whitworth University. In second grade we do a lot of math, and we learn double digit and triple digit addition and subtraction. We write personal narratives, letters, poems, informational texts and opinion pieces. We work on both handwriting and keyboarding. We read informational texts, biographies, poems, and fiction stories.  We study community and citizenship in Social Studies, and matter, ecosystems, engineering, and earth materials in Science. We also have a class pet named Carmel.  He is anxious to meet the class!
