iGrad Academy

 

Oak Harbor Public Schools initiated a program called iGrad Academy to help locate at-risk students that have either stopped coming to school or had other mitigating factors that precluded them from attending.  Through this re-engagement program, former students ages 16-21 who are considered dropouts by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction are offered ways to return to school.  The first goal is to reach out to these students to see if they can be re-engaged into the regular school program.  If a traditional high school setting doesn’t suit the student, they are considered for the Midway program.  As a final solution to meet the Oak Harbor School District’s goal of on-time graduation, iGrad Academy offers students the ability to earn their high school diploma through online learning.

iGrad Academy is offered in partnership with an organization called Graduation Alliance. Resources offered to at-risk students include a teaching mentor and technology so they can participate in online learning to meet graduation requirements. Students are provided with a laptop, a local advocate, an academic advocate and access to tutors 24 hours a day.  Since iGrad Academy is considered a school within the District, students who have dropped out need to reside in the district to participate in the program.
