• Greetings Everyone!

My name is Claire Gellrich and I am the new Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) for Olympic View Elementary School! I wanted to take a moment to tell you a little about myself, as I will be available starting immediately to assist students in military families by providing a layer of extra support while at school.

Originally from Louisiana and having spent the past 8 years in New York City, I moved to Oak Harbor a little over a year ago with my husband, who is active duty Navy.  I have worked for many years with children in a variety of settings, including in school-based settings.  As a military spouse, I am uniquely connected to the military community and previously worked with active duty service members at the Naval Health Clinic Oak Harbor prior to transitioning into my role at Olympic View.

The Military and Family Life Counseling Program (MLFC) offers services on and off military installations worldwide, including in local school-based settings is to provide non-medical counseling support to children both individually and in the group setting in an effort to help improve students to performance in school, assist students in developing healthy interpersonal and relationship skills, and to provide an extra layer of support to school staff and to families.  The program is entirely private and confidential with an emphasis on no written records.  Our goal is to help your child thrive as best as possible in the school setting while being sensitive to the unique lifestyle that the military present.  School-based MFLCs conduct classroom observations, model evidence-based intervention approaches, and provide consultation support to parents, caregivers, childcare providers, teachers, and school administrators.

I am truly excited to be back working in the school system again, especially in connection with the children and families attached to the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI).  I myself benefitted greatly from the assistance of school counselors growing up, and I am eager to give back to the community that helped me immensely during my own childhood.

If you and your child are interested in MFLC services, please feel free to read over the MFLC information and sign/return the consent form.  These are located here on the Military Families page or click here for the link.

    Warmest Regards,

    Claire Gellrich, LICSW/LCSW
