Dear Families,
In our classroom, your student will find a school family. Our team of teachers, para professionals and specialists is focused on delivering instruction that is tailored to each student’s unique strengths and needs. We believe strongly in the inherent value of every person. I hope you will see that in the energy, warmth and care we bring to working with each student and his or her family.
Our program is a mix of core academics and functional skills that prepare students to live and work as independently as possible. Students in our program receive core academic instruction in our room -- they take math, English, social studies, science and other core subjects just like any student. We also incorporate pre-vocational and vocational training skills in anticipation that students of all abilities will move onto the district’s transitions program, Exceptional Academy, and eventually a job. They also take adaptive PE, fine arts and career and technical classes to fulfill graduation requirements as well as personal interests. In our classroom, we offer a laundry area, therapy room and full kitchen to work on life skills. Students care for a classroom garden. We also travel off campus for community-based learning. We encourage all of our students to become involved in extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs.
We have an “open door” classroom policy for family. Please feel free to email me or call anytime with concerns or questions.
Sincerely,
Debra Vaughn
