If my student is absent or tardy? If your student should miss a day of school, or will be more than five minutes late, please notify us immediately. You can call the office 360.279.5503 and then follow up with a note or email (email@example.com) to the office within 48 hours upon their return. If you have a pre-planned event where your student will be out of school for 2 or more days, please send us a note 3 days ahead of the absence. We then will give your student a contract to take around to their teachers and obtain homework. In the event that an illness causes an extended absence, we may also be able to gather assignments that were missed, but please note that it may take teachers 24-48 hours to have assignments ready for pick-up.Excuse notes must include:

- The date/s and reason for the absence/s
- A parent/guardian signature and the current date

Homework during an absenceYou may request homework for your student via family access. If you do not know your family access log in or password please contact the registrar at 360.279.5519. Homework may be requested formally after your child has been absent for two consecutive days. When requesting homework, call the attendance line 360.279.5503 and indicate that your student has been out for two days and you would like to request homework. This has to be done before 10 AM to allow teachers time to gather work together. Work will be sent to the office for parent pick up. The office closes at 3 p.m.Most teachers post work on their web sites. Missing assignments are posted in the grade book section of family access.
Distance Learning Attendance
Teachers are taking daily attendance for each class during Distance Plus Learning. Attendance is being tracked by having students answer a question on their Google Classrooms. This can be found under the Classwork tab and should say "Attendance" (see photo). Answering this question means that they logged in for that day and worked on their assignments. During class, the teachers will spend some time presenting with the students in a Google Meet and it is important for students to attend each class so they don't miss out on valuable learning time.
If your student is going to miss a class, please email our attendance secretary at: NWMSAttendance@ohsd.net as soon as you're aware of the absence.
What if my student was incorrectly marked absent?
Students have three avenues for participating during each class, as long as they do at least one of these, they should not get marked absent.
1. Participate in the Google Meet with their teacher.
2. Complete the attendance question for the day.
3. Turn in an assignment that day.
If your student has done these things and was still marked absent, please email us at NWMSAttendance@ohsd.net with your students name and the date they were marked absent.
Does my student still have to "attend" their regular classes on Advisory Wednesdays?
Yes! Students must log in to each of their regular classes on Wednesdays and complete the attendance question and any classwork for the day. Wednesdays there are no Google Meets for their regular classes; they are working independently. Teachers will still have assignments and activities for students to do though they are learning asynchronously on Wednesdays.
