Arts & Communications Concentration
Graphic Arts & Media Production courses apply technical, creative writing, art, computers, math, and science to career fields such as Advertising, Media, Web Design, Filmmaking, Graphics, Printing, Public Relations, and Communications. Join Wildcat Graphics Club, expand your leadership and skill preparation through annual state competitions.
BROADCAST COMMUNICATIONS

AS SEEN ON TELEVISION (channel 21, that is)!!! Be part of the crew producing Wildcat TV and experience what it's like to work in a broadcast newsroom. Write storeis, conduct on-camera interviews and edit video and audio elements creating programs for our school and community. Use your imagination, creativity and talents as you build strong communications skills using some of the coolest technology available at OHHS. Learn Apple Pro skills towards industry certification. Note: Completion of this course with a "B" or better qualifies for 3 credits from Shoreline Community College or 4 credits from Edmonds Community College.
DIGITAL DESIGN

Prerequisite: Key 30 wpm or MS Word recommended
Length: one semester/one-half credit
Learn Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX, Fireworks MX, and some HTML. Develop website production, teamwork, effective communication and project management skills. Projects include personal and client-specified communications. Note: Completion of Web Design earning a grade of "B" or better, qualifies for 5 credits at Skagit Valley College.

Prerequisite: Application process with teacher approval.

Produce the high school yearbook. Develop skills in photography, illustration, feature writing, desktop publishing, and file management. Learn leadership and employability skills for future jobs.

Learn photography techniques. Develop and print black and white photos. Learn special photographic techniques and processing. Work with video equipment and learn techniques used in the television and movie production industries. Learn lighting, script writing, digital editing, sound recording and mixing. Explore media history, copyright and critical viewing. Note: Completion of this course earning a grade of "B" or better qualifies for 8 college credits at Shoreline Community College.

Take video production to the next level using advanced computer-aided editing and mixing equipment. Learn special effects, video animation, technical writing and other production techniques. Projects include long-format productions, instructional videos, community documentaries and special event videos. Learn Apple Pro skills towards industry certificaton.
DESKTOP/DIGITAL PUBLISHING

Use Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator and other desktop publishing programs. Utilize digital cameras, scanners, Firewire, CDs, and DVDs. Work in the studio producing projects related to the multimedia production field. Projects include: student magazines, book design, digital photography and other publications. Learn Apple Pro skills towards industry certification. Note: Completion of this course with a grade of "B" or better qualifies for 5 college credits at Skagit Valley College. Course qualifies for Fine Arts or Career and Tech credit.
