NJROTC is first to get new top-tier recognition
The leaders and cadets of NJROTC received the ultimate honor this week as the OHHS program was chosen to be the first school ever to receive the "Pennant for Excellence." This is a new award and Captain D.L. Wenceslao, manager for Area 13, quickly chose Oak Harbor as the first recipient. He credited CDR Mike Black and Chief Bill Thiel for creating an outstanding program that consistently produces results for students. "For the rest of the school year you are entitled to display the pennant with pride," Wenceslao wrote. "Let your cadets know that there is only one of these pennants in Area 13 and you have it! You have earned it through your hard work and dedication to citizenship." Area 13 includes Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Nevada, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, and Japan.
