Screening and Evaluation services are available for students with suspected disabilities in the areas of:
hearing, vision, speech, language, health, learning/developmental delay, behavior management, mental retardation, birth defects, orthopedic or spinal problems or other disabilities.

If your child is already in school, contact your school principal for testing.

Early screening programs are offered for pre-school years (ages 3-5) and qualifying students can be enrolled in a preschool offering all the services of Special Education. Younger children (birth to 2) can receive special attention for identified disabilities through the Toddler Learning Center.

Parents or guardians who have concerns about their child in any of these areas are encouraged to contact one of the local schools or the Special Programs office at 279-5073.

Oak Harbor School District will provide Child Find Preschool Screenings on the following dates during the school year 2013-2014: September 6, 2013; October 25, 2013; December 6, 2013; February 7, 2014; March 21, 2014; May 2, 2014.

The screening is offered at no cost and provided for children from 3 years of age to entering Kindergarten.

The screening itself takes approximately 1 to 1½ hours to complete. During this time, children will be given a free vision, hearing, speech, language and developmental check.

While their child is being screened, parents will be asked to provide general information on their child's development. Their child's baby book or calendar may be helpful to parents in answering some of the questions. Results will be provided to the parents after their child's screening has been completed.

An appointment is required for Child Find Preschool Screening. For more information or to schedule a screening appointment, parents should call the Hand-In-Hand Early Learning Center at 279-5928 or e-mail
