MONDAYS- TEACHER COLLABORATION EARLY RELEASE DAYS
The Oak Harbor School District has scheduled early release days every Monday. This time is spent for staff to work on school improvement and student achievement strategies. It is very important collaboration and training time for our staff. Students are dismissed from school an hour early to accommodate this staff work time.

LEARNING IMPROVEMENT DAYS
The Oak Harbor School District has scheduled two full release days for students, called "Learning Improvement Days". On these days school and district staff members meet together for more extensive curriculum and instruction training and collaboration. In the 2005-2006 school year these days will be on October 10th and January 30th. Although teachers and support staff will be working, students do not come to school on these days.

ARRIVAL AND DROP-OFF
Supervision for students who are not participating in the breakfast program does not begin until 8:50 a.m. The cafeteria/gym will be open at 8:35 a.m. for students who wish to eat breakfast. Please do not send your children to school prior to 8:50 a.m. if they are not participating in the breakfast program. Students arriving by vehicle should be dropped off in the drive-through lane in the front of the building. We do not allow unsupervised students to dart or walk through traffic and parked cars in the parking lot. Students may ride bicycles to school; helmets are required. All bikes need to have locks and must be parked in designated areas. Students should walk their bicycle while on school property during the school day. For those students walking to school, crossing guards will arrive at the crossing area at 8:45 a.m. Parents walking their children to school should escort their child to the benches in the front of the building next to the gym.

DISMISSAL AND PICK-UP
The safety of our students is the most important goal when we are releasing them from school. Students walking or riding their bike home are expected to go home immediately after the dismissal bell. If there is a change in how your child is to leave the school grounds, or if any other arrangements have been made, a parent/guardian note or telephone call by 2:40 p.m. to the school is required. Otherwise, students will be sent home as previously arranged. Students will be dismissed to the entry area for pick-up. If you are waiting to pick-up your child when school is over, please remain in the entry area until the students are brought down with their teachers, so that we don't disrupt the classroom teaching. If you are picking up your child in the drive through lane, please do not arrive before 3:00 p.m. Please pull all the way up in the drive-through lane (not blocking the crosswalk). In this driving lane you must remain in your car. Your child will be waiting on the porch and will be escorted to your car by an assistant as you arrive. (If your child is not at the porch area, you will be asked to drive around again.)

The amount of congestion and traffic in and around the front parking lot at the end of the school day is an issue at CVE that we are continually working with parents to improve. Our instructional assistants work very hard to maintain a safe and efficient system to protect all children during this busy time at CVE. We ask for your cooperation and assistance by requesting that you follow the directions of all CVE staff directing this process.
